Understanding vulnerability to climate change within communities

I am collating and reviewing community level participatory tools to understand  vulnerability to climate change and identify resilience strategies. These are part of my preparatory work for a forthcoming trip to Timor Leste in which I shall be working at the community level to try to unpack how different social groups (by age, gender, livelihoods, socio-economic groups and others) are vulnerable to variations in the climate. The focus will be on whether/ how they are coping, adapting and identifying policies and interventions to try to support them.

As a start, here are four  frameworks and tools :

CARE Climate Vulnerability and Community Adaptation Assessment

Mercy Corp’s Resilience Approach

Oxfam’s Participatory Capacity and Vulnerability Analysis

Tearfund’s Climate Change and Environmental Degradation Risk and Adaptation Assessment (CEDRA)
